Industrial IoT machine monitoring software, without the IoT project

Guidewheel’s sensor clips around a machine’s power conductor and reads its electrical heartbeat, so run, idle and down arrive already interpreted.
No wires to cut, no cabinets to rewire, no PLC programs to modify, and nothing joins your controls network.
Every machine that uses power is in scope, whatever its age, make or model. No PLC, no MES, no IT project.

Downtime calculator

What is your downtime actually worth?

Five numbers you already know. No email, no gate, no follow-up unless you ask for one.

Two shifts, five days is about 80. Three shifts, five days is 120.
Pre-filled with 54.5%, the weighted US average across 75 million machine-minutes in our 2026 Factory Uptime Report.
Contribution margin per hour, not revenue. This is the number that moves the answer most, so replace it with yours.

48%

“48% of measured downtime sits in three under-instrumented categories (electrical, material, and staffing), more than 2x mechanical breakdowns combined.” An instrumentation plan scoped around what the controllers already expose leaves that half unmeasured. Guidewheel 2026 Factory Uptime Report, 75 million machine-minutes.

Scoping an industrial IoT build
  • Every machine needs a controller willing to talk, so the older half of the fleet drops out of scope before the project starts.
  • A gateway per line, then a tag model to design, name and keep accurate as the floor changes.
  • Controls engineering time, PLC code changes, network architecture changes and an IT security review, because anything reading a PLC lands on the controls network.
  • The platform arrives empty. Dashboards, metric definitions and alerts are a second project with a second owner.
  • Pilots stall at a handful of machines in one plant, and the numbers never become comparable across sites.
  • By the time it is live, the plant manager is still asking someone what happened on last night’s shift.
With Guidewheel
  • The sensor clips around the machine’s power conductor. Age, make and model stop deciding what is in scope.
  • No wires to cut, no cabinets to rewire, no PLC programs to modify, and nothing joins your controls network.
  • Run, idle and down arrive already interpreted, rather than as a raw tag stream somebody still has to turn into a metric.
  • Scoreboards, Pareto analysis and alerts are shipped features, not a second project. Plant-level views sit under a company-level one.
  • Every site captures machine state the same way, which is what makes a fair plant-to-plant comparison possible once you agree one shared set of downtime reason tags.
  • It sits alongside your ERP, CMMS and BI tools through native integrations, connections via Workato, and an open API. Nothing gets ripped out.

You are not buying a pipeline to fill. The sensor is only the data layer, and what arrives is the analysis, on every machine you clip. See it on your own machines →

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a PLC, a gateway, or access to our controls network?

No. The sensor clips around the machine's power conductor and reads current, so there are no wires to cut, no cabinets to rewire and no PLC programs to modify. Nothing joins your controls network. You also do not need existing infrastructure: we provide what is needed and connect to the cloud over ethernet, WiFi or LTE, depending on what is available at your site.

What data do we actually get?

Run, idle and down for every machine in real time, with the duration of each stop and the reason once someone tags it. Current-based state detection returns availability and performance directly, along with transition timestamps, load profiles and cycle counts on machines with repetitive motion patterns. It arrives interpreted rather than as a raw tag stream, so live scoreboards, Pareto by machine and shift, and alerts are features you switch on rather than dashboards you build.

Can we standardise this across several plants?

Yes. Every site is captured the same way, which is what makes plant-to-plant comparison fair. A company-level view shows the whole network at a glance, plant-level views show each site, and filtering by business unit or site lets you see the operation the way your team runs it.

Does Guidewheel replace our MES, ERP or historian?

No. Guidewheel sits alongside what you already run. It connects to ERP, CMMS and BI tools through native integrations, connections via Workato, and an open API for custom integrations, and the sensor clips around the power conductor rather than joining your controls network. Nothing gets ripped out.

What type of machines does Guidewheel work on?

Any machine that uses power, regardless of age, make or model. The sensor clips around the power conductor instead of connecting to your controls network, so there is no PLC integration and no per-machine controller to buy.

Do we install the sensors ourselves?

You do not have to. Our team can install Guidewheel for you, and most sites are running in about a day. Dedicated onboarding and ongoing support come with every plan, in person or virtual. You also do not need existing infrastructure: the sensors reach the cloud over ethernet, WiFi or LTE, depending on what the site already has.

How quickly can we start seeing data?

Most teams are up and running in a day, with visibility live within hours of sensor install.

What does Guidewheel cost?

Pricing is published. It starts at $15,000 a year and includes your first 10 machines, with dedicated onboarding and ongoing support from our team, in person or virtual. You do not need existing infrastructure: the sensors reach the cloud over ethernet, WiFi or LTE, depending on what the site already has. No quote to chase, you can see the current figure on our pricing page before you ever speak to us.

Ready to see every machine, without the IoT project?

Let’s talk about the machines you cannot see today, what run, idle and down would change across your plants, and exactly what standing that up involves.
