Improving operations and sustainability with technology

Lauren Dunford, CEO and co-founder of Guidewheel, was selected to speak at this year’s TomKat Center Winter 2024 Innovation Showcase. She spoke about how Guidewheel has helped customers like Pretium and Berry Global reach their sustainability goals, make data-driven CapEx decisions, and integrate energy management into the daily workflows of the plant floor team.

In this webinar, moderator Matthew Kanan, Director of the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy at Stanford University, asked how each of the startup founders was helping to improve sustainability with technology. Lauren shared her own insights alongside Tyler Hall, Co-founder and President of ExploreTech, and Rauf Khan, Founder of Vanilla. Some key takeaways:

  • Building energy management into operational systems ensures sustainability improvements are made through the course of daily operations, not sidelined as separate initiatives.

  • Data on energy consumption helps manufacturers make CapEx decisions by showing them when replacing an old piece of equipment with a more energy efficient model is justified by ROI.

  • Measuring energy usage and efficiency enables companies to take advantage of utility rebates they often miss out on.
